Statement by National Advocates for Arts Education

Policy Submissions

October 15, 2014
Prepared by naae

Music Australia is part of an alliance of organisations advocating for arts education in Australian schools, the National Advocates for Arts Education (NAAE). Other members are: Australian Dance Council – Ausdance, Art Education Australia, Australian Society for Music Education, Australian Teachers of Media, Drama Australia, National Association for the Visual Arts.

NAAE has issued a statement in response to the Australian Government’s Australian Curriculum Review Report, released in October 2014. NAAE welcomes the Review Report’s acknowledgement of the value of the arts and the need for greater teacher development in the arts in schools. However the NAAE considers the arts recommendations to be premature given that the Australian Curriculum: the Arts is a new document yet to be fully implemented. The NAAE also express concerns about contradictions, assertions and factual errors included in the report.
