This event brought together some 40 influential and informed people motivated to forge a shared agenda to further develop Australia’s contemporary music sector. The half-day roundtable will include presentations on key topics, breakout discussions, and a keynote address.
The keynote address will by APRA AMCOS Chief Executive Brett Cottle AM.
Brett Cottle is one of Australia’s leading music industry executives. APRA AMCOS is a long-time member of Music Australia and we, like so many organisations, have benefited from the unique and collaborative culture fostered under Brett Cottle’s leadership.
The purpose of this Roundtable is to identify and affirm shared and achievable strategies for action and advocacy to further develop Australia’s Contemporary Music Industry. The half-day session will explore key opportunities and challenges facing the industry, share data and perspectives, and discuss key policy and advocacy issues. It will issue a communique and provide momentum to drive further advocacy and activity by Music Australia and our partners.
Who is Attending?
We have invited leaders from Australia’s key contemporary music peak bodies and associations, many of whom are Music Australia members, along with specialist agencies, commercial companies, and policy makers. A list of invited peak bodies and representatives can be viewed here.
An Organising Group convened by the Music Australia Board is gathering intelligence, shaping the agenda, identifying participants, and will release a Discussion Paper beforehand. The intention is to focus on those key challenges and opportunities where joint action and advocacy can deliver constructive outcomes. Each member of the group is well known in the industry and has an ongoing association with Music Australia. View the Organising Group members here.
The Roundtable will grapple with a short list of key policy and industry development issues include fostering live music, music entrepreneurship and enterprise in the 21st C; improving employment and remuneration for creators and performers; strengthening the contribution of music copyright industries to the Australian economy; growing the recording sector; and harnessing innovation, research and development. Venue and Accommodation
Venue: The Roundtable will be held at Music Australia’s home base: Erskineville Town Hall. This lovely old art deco building is located in the heart of the Erskineville Village precinct with close access to rail and Sydney Airport.
