Steven Knopoff is an ethnomusicologist and composer who is Head of the undergraduate Musicology program at the Elder Conservatorium where he lectures in musicology and world musics, music theory, music in contemporary society and the history of popular music. His research and publication has focused on traditional music of the Yolngu people of Northeast Arnhem Land, and on the aesthetics and ethics of appropriating Indigenous song in contemporary forms of music. He is an editor for the Journal of Music Research Online and President of the South Australian Chapter of the Musicological Society of Australia.
