The 2021 Music Count Us In Songwriting Competition is now open!

All Australian school students with a passion for songwriting are encouraged to apply.

Music Australia is currently inviting students to submit their original songs for the 2021 National Songwriting Competition. Finalists from this competition will be selected to take part in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, to write the song that will be sung and played by hundreds of thousands of young Australians as part of Music: Count Us In‘s Celebration Day on Thursday 4 November 2021.

About the Music: Count Us In National Songwriting Competition

Students are invited to submit a song they have written for the chance to participate in a one day songwriting workshop (travel and accommodation provided). They will work in collaboration with each other, Program Ambassador John Foreman OAM and our 2021 Program Mentor to craft the 2021 Program Song for Music: Count Us In.  Past MCUI Program Mentors have included the likes of Lior, Katie Noonan, Jack River, Marcia Hines, Jay Laga’aia, Angus Gill and Taylor Henderson.

We are looking for entries that celebrate music in the lives of young Australian people, with melodies and lyrics that are fun, uplifting and easy to learn. The competition closes on Friday 26 February, so students have the first part of Term 1 to write and submit their entries.

Our expert panel will judge the entries then four lucky students will be selected to join John Foreman and our celebrity mentor to compose the final song.

This is a once in a lifetime experience for a young musician!
