Unsigned Only Music Competition, based in the US has announced its 2018 winners. Australians have retained their winning streak, once again garnering the most wins of any country second only to the USA.

Brisbane based singer – songwriter Sahara Beck received first place in the Adult Contemporary category with her song “Here We Go Again” and Cairns artist Mayah was awarded second place in the R&B/Hip-Hop category for the song “XO Girl.” Additionally 18 Aussie artists were awarded an Honorable Mention in their respective categories.

“Australia always produces great independent artists, and this year was no exception,” said Candace Avery and Jim Morgan, founders of Unsigned Only. “We are always on the lookout for artists who create music that is creative, memorable, and enduring. We are proud to honour so many Aussie artists whose music embodies these traits.”

Established in 2012, Unsigned Only recognises and honours excellence in the craft of songwriting. With over 6,000 entries submitted from almost 95 countries. Unsigned Only is open to all artists who are unsigned to a major record label, and over the years it has become an important source for discovering new talent. Since its inception, four Grand Prize winners have been signed to major label record deals.

The Grand Prize was awarded to Canadian country artist Eric Ethridge for his song “Girl On Fire.” The past few years have seen Ethridge’s career gaining momentum. A doctor-turned-country-artist, Ethridge has a strong connection with his fans and listeners, evidenced by his songs being streamed over three million times in the short time since his EP was released.
