Help Write the Biggest Song of 2018!

Music: Count Us In encourages young people to become passionate about music and music education. The annual Music: Count Us In program is built on the development and nationwide performance of the original program song – a song for students, by students.

The Music: Count Us In National Songwriting Competition is currently open to all Australian school students. We are looking for young and enthusiastic songwriters who would like to have their work performed by over half a million students across the country.  Students must write to the 2018 Song Brief. Finalists from the competition will come together for a one day Songwriting Workshop where they will work collaboratively in developing the 2018 Program Song. Student finalists spend the day working with Program Ambassador, John Foreman OAM, and with the Program Mentor. In 2017, our Program Mentor was Taylor Henderson and our Program Song was ‘Shine Together’. We have worked with some amazing Mentors over the years, most recently Jay Laga’aia (2016) and Marcia Hines (2015).

This is how the MCUI Program Song was created in 2017:

Once the song is written and recorded, it will be released to over 3,000 schools across the country. The song goes out with a great range of educational resources so that teachers and students can explore new ways of bringing music to the classroom. The program comes together on Celebration Day – Australia’s biggest celebration of music and music education. Celebration Day 2018 is Thursday 1 November.

The MCUI Songwriting Competition closes on Thursday 15 February 2018.
