Fundraising ideas for local community music schools

Here’s a way for music schools to raise funds to help run their teaching programs. Keystone Musical Arts Center in Pennsylvania in the US, a community based school that runs classes in voice, strings and piano, has held its sixth annual Soup Cook Off to generate funds for building expansion.

“The event will feature soups, chilies and bisques prepared by professional and amateur chefs,” said the organisers ahead of the event. Trophies were awarded for the top three soups, as judged by members of the public, who could choose between 40 dishes prepared by more than a dozen local restaurants.

If that idea does not appeal, Andrianes Pinantoan from Open Colleges, an online education provider in Sydney, has suggested ‘13 Unusual Ways to Raise Money for Your School’ – including hiring out student choirs, spelling bees and blind auctions. The US National Association of Music Parents has compiled an even bigger list of 59 fundraising ideas, which range from garage sales and spaghetti dinners to hosting parties to sell merchandise by home-based businesses.
