Four Australian acts were included among nominations for the 2016 Grammy Awards, announced on Tuesday 8 December.
Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett was listed in the Best New Artist category. At the 2015 ARIAs, held on November 26, she won three prizes: Best Female Artist, Best Breakthrough Artist and Best Independent Release, for Sometimes I Sit And Think And Sometimes I Just Sit.
Meanwhile, Perth’s Tame Impala received a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Album, for Currents. Like Barnett, the rockers cleaned up at the ARIAs, taking home Best Group, Best Rock Album and Album of the Year, also for Currents.
Melbourne’s future-soul band Hiatus Kaiyote earned a Grammy nomination for a second year running, this time in the Best R&B Performance section for their song ‘Breathing Underwater’, while Keith Urban was shortlisted in the Best Country Solo Performance field.
The winners of the 2016 Grammy Awards will be revealed at the official ceremony, to be held on Monday, 15 February, 2016, at the Staples Center, Los Angeles.
