Orkeztra Glasso Bashalde has announced its first workshop series. To be held on three consecutive Wednesday evenings from 15 July, the workshops are designed for musicians of all levels and experience. They will be hosted at Jika Jika Community Centre, corner Plant and Union Streets, Northcote, between 7.15 and 9.30pm. Each session costs $10.
Gemma Horbury, the Orkeztra’s musical director, will lead the workshops, taking participants on an exploration of Balkan, Klezmer and Middle Eastern music, covering rhythm, style and improvisation.
Found in 2008 by Pietro Fine, Orkeztra Glasso Bashalde is an inclusive world music ensemble based in Northcote. Its goal is to raise awareness of diverse music, while supporting original Australian compositions through collaborations. Musicians of any level are welcome to join. Rehearsals are held weekly during school terms and the Orkeztra performs four concerts per year, in addition to appearing at various folk festivals.
