ABC budget cuts hit Classic FM

ABC boss Mark Scott announced on 24 November changes to Classic FM programming with the radio station to reduce the number of live concerts it records. This follows Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull’s announcement that the ABC will lose $254 million over the next five yearsLimelight Magazine believes that the cuts will likely result in the loss of around a dozen staff, and that more content may be driven online. ANU’s Peter Tregear suggestS in The Conversation that it is timely for ABC FM to rethink its public broadcasting role.
