Victoria Puts the ‘Agent of Change’ Principle Into Effect

Live music venues across Victoria breathed a collective sigh of relief on September 4, when lobby group SLAM (Save Live Music Australia) announced that the ‘agent of change’ principle had come into effect. In essence, it places responsibility for soundproofing firmly on the shoulders of those who move within proximity of an established venue. As explored in August’s Music Forum, noise complaints can present a serious and expensive threat to a healthy live music scene. SLAM, in conjunction with Fair Go 4 Live Music, academic Dr Kate Shaw and Music Victoria, have fought hard to push the policy through.
