The Peggy Glanville-Hicks Address is an annual forum which honours one of Australia’s great international composers and provides a platform to discuss important issues facing contemporary music today.
The New Music Network established the Peggy Glanville-Hicks Address in 1999 and it is widely considered to be the single most important occasion for contemporary music discourse. Each year an advocate of Australian music takes the stage to deliver the address. Past speakers include Richard Gill OAM, recorder virtuoso Genevieve Lacey, pianist Michael Kieran Harvey, conductor Simone Young and Opera Australia’s artistic director Lyndon Terracini.
This year the address will be delivered by composer, producer, advocate, philanthropist and corporate leader, Dr Kim Williams AM. Dr Williams has previously led companies such as Foxtel, Musica Viva, Sydney Opera House Trust, News Corp Australia and the Australian Film Commission.
In his address ‘I Wonder As I Wander’ Dr Williams talks about the opportunities for business and the arts and the landscape ahead for contemporary art music.
Today The Australian published an edited version of his Peggy Glanville-Hicks Address, which happened in Perth on Monday. It was repeated in Adelaide last night, and will also be presented in Melbourne tonight and in Sydney tomorrow.
